THE STORY: 12 th lesson written by Edmundo John
The log line: a photographer is drawn into a violent world of high stakes gambling when she falls for a reckless gambler who teaches her to dance.
The Synopsis
The Twelfth lesson is a musical thriller with both a personal drama and a love story.
The existence of violence and gangsters with the female photographer holding the key to the story, by means of a reel of undeveloped film which is taken after the heroine (Terry) witnessing an attack on the hero (Ralph), is at the heart of the thriller. Order and chaos verses conquest or the quest for validation, married with the value of love, or the morality of right and wrong drive the love story and personal drama. After witnessing the attack Ralph is pursued by terry and when she learns that he is a dancer, she becomes involved with him, and for money Ralph agrees to give terry 12 dance lessons.
, Ralph is a gambler and a dancer and is a character who wants to "do it his way" and he is seeking to assert his independence from his father who regards his son’s actions and decisions with the attitude "you will see one day."
Ralph sees himself as the same as his friend Bo (a helpless gambler) and will do anything to maintain his friend Bo. His father does not approve of Ralph’s dancing or his friends. Hardshuffle the gangster will take any type of bet, so when Ralph and hardshuffle clash some ones got to loose, but who?
The concept of the twelfth lesson is intriguing and strong visually, combining music dance and evocative flash back/ fantasy with a hybrid genre and visual style that confronts the viewer with real surprises. The story feels edgy and reads like a hybrid between a stage show and a film.
Characterization
Ralph is an interesting combination- a dancer teacher who has fallen in with a mean crowd in the world of professional gambling. In this regard the project has an echo of the Beat my Heart Skipped .There is mystery to Ralph as Ralph is engaged in a personal battle which splits his character. Ralph’s father had plans for his son to follow in his footsteps .Ralph was "not so sure", as a result of this conflict Ralph took up the dance and developed close relationships with talented outsiders artist musicians, and in this action Ralph sees himself as the some as his friends e.g. Bo .Bo introduced the concept of outlaws to gather ( outlaws 4 life a brotherhood of risk takers). In this respect we see Bo as having the power to release Ralph from his world and chooses not to, or by acknowledging Ralph’s talent freeing Ralph of any obligation. Bo is the real gambler and Ralph is his loyal sidekick gambles as a means of acceptance by his friend. Ralph values his street cred more that he values his career and can be dangerous physically when cornered. His relationship with Bo is more that it seems Ralph needs Bo and the chaos that Bo lives with. This relationship legitimizes his lack of success in his chosen field
Ralph has many friends however he denies his dependency on these people he believes that his relationship with his dad has real significance and wants to prove that he can make his way independently in the big city.
Terry is a safe professional well attached and supported by a group of professional who look after her (JP being the most prominent) and in this respect Terry is well organized and always in control however she has voyeuristic tendencies. Terry has given Ralph a chance to escape the violence and danger through a love interest that orbits around his art, although she doesn’t recognise herself in the role as the lessons take place.
Terry is attracted to the dark side which she has access to through Ralph, and all though the 12 lessons are a distraction from her plans with JP (to light up the art world). Terry finally has discovered her own secret and her reluctance to develop the film shows that she is unwilling to betray this secret or believes that there are greater rewards ahead if she curb her voyeurism and begins to rely upon her instincts in other words "go with it" and trust your self, terry is not a stereotype in the fact that she is in complete control of all aspects of her relationship with Ralph.
BO. Bo is a mischievous character who is a musician that plays the sax although we never see or hear his work.he has a reputation around town as a small time hustler and is known by the many different persona that he created , above all be has formed a loose collective of people and they are called outlaws for life, he thought an introduction to Ralph persuades Ralph that this way of living is the only way to survive. Bo is persuasive and controlling on the surface however he has made to many enemies and is a lonely character full of regrets. He plays on Ralph's good nature and enlists Ralph to his cause and relies n obligation to cement his friendship.
The truth is that Ralph does not want to change he is uncomfortably settled and his loyalty to Bo has clearly no boundaries, however he knows that he must change and again this fuels his passion for dance and at the same time his need to gamble. In many respects the love interest is the thing that can change him. Ralph doesn’t know he loves terry however deep down he knows that terry is possibly the best thing that has happened to him. And subconsciously bridges the nervous relationship with his father by her introduction. Terry and Ralph have both to be individuals allowing honesty (to be honest with each other) to validate or shape the future of there relationship at the end of this story.
Terry's confidant agent and friend. J.P. . P.J. is a women of colour and Terry's agent.j.p.has seen terry grow up and Believes in terry and will fight for her to the end he also knows every thing about her.

HARDSHUFFLE COUNTRY HOUSE

Mouse has in his hands a piece of paper containing a list of some sort.

Terry’s agent, JP, commissions Terry to make a humorous collection of photographs for a huge project that he will be taking over to the States.
Ralph begins to believe that his student Terry is the best thing that has happened to him for some time and is more convinced when he accidentally sees JP’s fax confirming the commissioning of the photographs for the States. As the lessons intensify, both Ralph and Terry begin to see their dreams come into reality. Ralph could really make it this time and Terry has always wanted to move from behind the camera to in front. Hardshuffle is never one to turn down an opportunity of making some money. So when he is presented with a bag full of cash and an all or nothing game of snooker, he can’t refuse. Bo and Ralph have a plan to gather all of Hardshuffles people together for the game and rob the lot of them. It seems like somebody has to lose, but whom?

SCENE 1
Music Rise H Albert 19 eighty
The music for this piece of dance last 3 minutes 20 seconds and the style and tempo of the piece would lend itself to forming part of if not the whole introduction and credits of the work.
We see an amphitheatre type venue with a audience waiting in anticipation for a piece of dance theatre that is about to commence. The audience is crowed around the dance floor area some are standing others kneeling and some are sitting on the floor, there is and intense and highly charged feel the scene. The spot light dims as a solitary female dancer, dances in a spinning movement in to the centre of the stage. She gestures that she is lost and scared by her dance movements and steps and the music that is harp like echoes the feeling of abandonment. That dancer is dressed in a short robe that shimmers with a blue fleck and she has on her ankles leggings that form a crossed effect that extend to her knees and long flowing blonde hair, the music and the dancer gestures that the mood of the piece is about to change as she falls in to a sleep at the centre of the theatre. The atmosphere then suddenly changes as 3 male dancers leap and barrel roll on to the stage the dancers dressed in black ripped tightly fitting body-stockings they are all well toned with short cropped hair and are dancing in bare feet and dark make up covers there eyes with eyeliner. In turn leap over the sleeping beauty forming contemporary dance shaped, and plot her fate. The music that sounds a trumpet lead classical style crescendo as the male dancers moment to take their prize. The dance that then proceeds as the female dancer is cleverly hunted by the male as she struggles to escape her fate the choreography see her moving across the floor to escape and the dancers cutting of her exits at every turn. We see the female dancer being lifted and tossed as the male dancers allow her flexibility and musical timing to carry the dance to its dramatic conclusion, one dancer Ralph stands astride her ready to strike with his left hand another dancer blocks this, as the other hand of the dancer Ralph is blocked they then simultaneously twist and to the crowds gasps the female is captured and held aloft as the male dancers subdue the victim, the light the music and the tension builds as the dance piece finally ends. The spotlight that followed the performance finally fades, and the audience are silent for a moment as the events the have witnessed take there breath away then suddenly as if in a collective gasp for air the crowd erupts into a mighty roar and applause is reigned down on the dancers. The lights are raised and the dancers who are all out of breath through there physical exertion and as a result the chest of the dancers expand and release to take the strain all stand then link hands with the girl dancer in the middle and bow the, male dancer then gesture the female dancer forward to take her applause and the one of the dancers Ralph moves to support the girl then with his arms over his head he applauds the music director then the other dancers and finally the audience. Ralph who is in his early to mid thirties id handsome in a rugged manner he has stubble and dark hair , his appearance is cool untidy, and he is a temperamental character and dance for him is a way of expressing himself. He and the dancers walk past the camera and the Ralph walks directly into lens taking the scenes into complete blackness as we fade out of the blackness.
Scene 2&3 are interlocking as they are different perspectives of the same events;
SCENE2 Music Beethoven’s 5th
We here Beethoven’s 5th as the mood changes and we find our selves in bright sunlight and the golden contrast between the claustrophobic dance and theatre and the hustle and bustle of a busy urban high street becomes apparent.
We see a woman Terry window-shopping on a warm day. She is wearing an open topped shirt with the sleeves neatly rolled up and tight jeans. She has medium length dark hair and what appears to be an expensive camera around her neck. She is carrying a bag on her right shoulder with a jacket thrown over the top of it. The high street is busy and she is looking into an art shop. We cross the road as she moves off up the busy street, and the camera drops to the level of her shoulder bag. Behind her we can just see the head and body of a little boy bobbing as he moves towards her. His pace quickening and looking shiftily around him. Then in an instant Terry’s bag is gone from her shoulder
The camera follows her running in pursuit of the boy and then alternately focusing on her legs then the boy’s legs, her face then the boy’s face. The boy ducks down an alley off the high street and into a building on the side. We see the doors of the building swinging closed and then Terry’s legs finally standing at the swinging doors. We pan up and see the words “Snooker/Pool Hall”. Terry stops apprehensively Out of breath
Terry goes to push the doors open and at the same moment the doors burst open and the little boy runs straight into Terry. She curses the little thief.
They struggle and the boy runs off, leaving the bag in the lobby of the snooker hall. Terry goes through the outer doors to pick it up and as she is bent over she sees through a cracked pane of glass a group of seven men. One man is being held by two men and another man appears to be arguing with a short mean looking man. As she picks up her bag she sees the short man beat the man being held. There this aloud bang as what seems to be a gun shot goes off. Terry picks up her camera and instinctively snaps at the camera shutter. The doors fly open and Ralph rushes past not noticing the crouched terry. Terry picks up her belonging and in the rush to pursue Ralph she leaves a piece of information from her bag laying on the ground this information contains some numbers.
SCENE 2 is cut into scene 3
We move into the snooker hall and cannot make out what is being said because the action is being viewed from a distance. The man being held is being repeatedly beaten by the short man, Mouse. The second man, (Ralph), calls….
Then Ralph, who is being closely watched by two men, one standing on either side of him.
We see each of the seven men in the room as the camera circles showing their faces and then cut to Ralph who’s right hand has moved onto the edge of a snooker table inches away from a ball sitting just off the cushion. Ralph slams the ball into the cheek of one of the men guarding him. As this happens the second man grabs Ralph around the chest. Ralph struggles turns and head butts the second man in the process damaging his own right eye. As the man lets go and bends over Ralph hurls the ball in his hand at the man holding his friend, Bo. Suddenly a shot is fired by one of the men and a flash of light sprays across the room the source appears to come from the snooker lobby in the confusion Ralph makes a bid to escape. As he turns to run himself he is hit in the face by the man who was bent over and is now slightly recovered. Ralph, dazed, heads for the door and hurls himself through the doors and out into the sunlight he is caring an object that looks like a gun. Having had no time to check on his friend and not noticing Terry crouched in the corner of the lobby, Ralph runs off, trying to gather himself back together. We see him moving up the high street shiftily looking around and walking quickly so as not to attract any additional attention as he passed a park, still dazed he ditches the weapon.STREET SCENE 3
Terry follows Ralph out of the club, her photographic/journalistic instincts getting the better of her. Having watched Ralph escape from the fight she is filled with intrigue. Unsure of how to approach /Ralph, she continues to follow him. She watches him walk through an alley, dodge between two moving cars, continue along a busy high street and watched him walk into a dance studio. She stands on the opposite side of the street, lights a cigarette a waits. She continues to wait, not wholly sure what it is that compels her to speak to this man, except that the ambiguity of what she has witnessed has drawn her to him. He intrigues her, he excites her. She wonders why this man has left a fight at a snooker hall and walked straight to a dance studio she has always wanted to be able to dance, maybe she can ask him to teach her and at the same time learn more about this mysterious man. After about twenty minutes Ralph walks out of the studio.
Terry hastily crosses the road to intercept Ralph.
Ralph is completely taken aback when she asks him if he will teach her
Ralph sees an opportunity to earn some money
Terry wants to learn to dance, but more importantly she wants to be taught by this man.
Ralph agrees to teach her £2500 for twelve lessons and he wants the money up front on our first lesson and we’ve got ourselves a deal.
Terry laughs a slightly nervous laugh and shakes Ralph’s hand. (We see a Rolex on Ralph’s hand) They depart in opposite directions, Ralph looking slightly bewildered; Terry feeling very pleased with herself Ralph turns his attention to his friend that he left in the struggle at the snooker hall and guesses correctly that he would find him at the hospital
SCENE 4
Ralph walks into Bo’s hospital ward and stands by his bed. Bo is resting with his eyes shut. Bo opens his eyes and raises his head slightly, and awkwardly and slowly rests it down again. His emotions are a mixture of sorrow and anger his frustration is fused by his addictive nature and seeing his friend like this he leaves to find a release
GAMES HALL Ralph dives into the amusement hall. An act of addiction
Flashing lights, pinball machines, rows and rows of electronic screens.
Ralph playing soul edge a kind of ninja fighting battle game, he is completely locked into the screen. Ralph throws a cig into his mouth, drags on it then he releases a combo, the screen explodes
TERRY’S HOUSE THE FOLLOWING MORNING, 6 O’CLOCK preparation for the dance lesson.
With the events of the previous day firmly implanted on terry consciousness terry takes her daily run. Terry has just completed her 3 mile jog. Asking herself what had she gotten herself into like a moth trapped in the lights of a speeding oncoming car Terry was horrified and also compelled by what she had witnessed. Like some strange and almost morbid bystander who for no reason they cam fathom cannot walk away from the sense of a terrible accident the compulsion was deeply rooted, as if this was what she had been wailing to happen. She found herself fixed in the moment and was a live again She returns home, kicks off her running shoes, flicks on the midi disc and CD consecutively. It’s about 7 o’clock She makes her way to the shower ( in the shower naked Terry is talking to herself)
Voiceover getting herself confidence and getting Fired up, to do this then. Go, and then as she gives herself a pinch as a note of warning.
(see her leaving the shower)
She dries herself and sprays a “body shop look-alike scent” on herself.
She is ready for her meeting with Ralph We see her going out into the street and call a Taxi
APARTMENT SCENE 5
FIRST LESSON LOOK AND WANT IT
Music non
Terry presses the doorbell and waits. The door creaks open, Ralph appears with a bruised lip, a plaster on his left eyes crumpled and unshaven, in a tracksuit, face full of sleep. He looks blankly, sniffs and then realises An enormous empty room, rubble, push bike and a small snooker table in the corner. Ralph takes her coat. Ralph places her coat down onto a chair .Ralph then places another chair exactly in the centre of the floor and explains that dancers first need strength, and commands Terry to perform a series of exercises that Terry is not able to complete. This was not what the angry Terry expected and was distraught when Ralph as her to do a chin up from a metal bar he wedged between the door frame. Every time Terry wanted to speak Ralph would look her strait in the eyes and just shake his head very slowly. The session ends abruptly when for the first time Ralph to no music beckons terry to follow him. We see him move and she tries to follow he stops her and giving her back her coat sees her to the door asked her for the money she agrees to give him half, and after some persuasion Ralph agrees. Ralph tells Terry the 12 lessons Ralph rules. The First lesson ends with Terry saying that she is going out one evening in the future and if he fancies it she will leave his name on the guest list. They arrange another lesson and we see the door to the flat close.
Terry Strolls off wanting more and also wanting to let other people into her strange new world of secrets. . After 20 minutes of moving to no music….
Terry is walking along the street. Skipping and bouncing and she heads towards the park We see Ralph running, talking on his mobile and is obviously ten minutes late. In the park we hear Terry. She sighs Terry feeling rather confident and at the same time rather shy looks down at the floor whenever she stumbles as she tried to recall the first steps..
We hear a phone ring. Then the shot frames into 2 sections opening thing .Terry on the phone to her friend J.P. We see Terry on the phone to her friend and agent. WAREHOUSE SCENE 9
We see Ralph standing outside a huge old building, phone in hand and obviously agitated and waiting. A car drives up out of which a man passes him a set of keys. They exchange a few words.5 minutes later he has got an envelope of stuff we are unsure what is in the envelope.. He immediately start in a mocking style dancing in the huge abandoned warehouse.
Terry leaves for the restaurant then heads back to her house to change with her brain dancing and her head spinning with the thoughts of the show that she is planning It’s raining. As we follow Terry into the restaurant she takes off her coat to show a “revealing blouse”. Obviously she is dressing to impress. She is having lunch with J.P.
Terry’s work is not going well .JP thinks that she is spending far to much time on what he calls distractions namely the lessons and that the big opportunity will pass her by
J.P. is a woman of colour and in her late 30s early 40s, sophisticated and very attractive. she has known Terry for a very long time and is Terry close friend as well as her agent.
Terry and J.P. Talk over Lunch. J.P. wants to keep Terry working and Pitch Terry’s work to some “Big” clients J.P explains that some Executives from the States are interested in taking Terry and her work to New York this could be terry’s big break. Terry is unimpressed and uninterested by the business side of things and refers to the executives as “dickheads”
JP and TERRY AT THE GALLERY PLANNING THE SHOW AND DEVELOPING THE PHOTOGRAPHS
We see Terry in her studio working on and organizing the work for the up coming exhibition she has a male assistant named Ray that is shaping up a number of objects and people and animals for a montage Terry is planning to shoot .JP has just arrived and is on the phone in conference with one of the executives the one Terry calls dickhead.
Ok Fine yea yea yes Ok Well see The 12th we agreed that Yea JP is getting impatient with the executive Sure we will Look Ok Terry she’s here now one minute Terry its….Terry
Say hello to the dickhead JP is left hanging on the dickheads words Terry says hello and is dying to meet you she is working as we speak she says thanks for your support
Terry wants to leaves to go to her lessons and calls over her assistant Ray. The assistant
Seeing terry frustration suggests she leave it to him, he will tidy up he claps his hands and the group stands to attention ( the assistant describe what he looks like and how as he is going through terry bay to collect the undeveloped photo s he unwittingly takes the roll that has the shots of what happened in the snooker hall terry n deliberately not developed these as they might tell her something about Ralph that she was unwilling to know or accept . the assistant takes the fill into the dark room and we see him prepare a the fluids that are needed to expose the film he is blissfully unaware that the film of what the film will reveled and processes the film without a second glance however the truth is out there and we see as the pictures are slowly merging the images of that faithful first encounter .
Easy Terry leaved for her lesson with Ralph JP is amused but he continues to talk to the dickhead executive politely.
Terry at home preparing to change for the lesson we see her house. This is a large terrace with a mosaic floor entrance we see them enter the lounge, which is split onto two levels and open plan. There are National Geographic magazines everywhere, the answer machine is bleeping because it’s full, and Lenny Kravitz albums by Divas interrupting each other on the mini disk, and a picture of the on the wall.
Ralph arranges by phone to meets Terry for there lesson that takes place at the abandoned warehouse,
The third lesson This Lesson is seen as a wide shot in a vast sky light Victorian building the lesson goes well and both are beginning to feel at ease with one another. At the end of the session Ralph is joined by Bo and a number of other male and females some are dancer and others friends we hear and see them sizing up the warehouse for and event of some description due to take place there in the next few days. The and the lesson ends with Ralph offering to drop her home.
In the warehouse we become a ware of a pain that suddenly strikes Ralph as he has a flash back this is scene in a grey tone on screen We see in graphic detail the fate of Bo ( as the seven men in scene 3) Take turns to hold him and beat him we see his body tightly curled up, and a shot of snooker table legs we see the sole of a foot reigning down and numerous facial expression. We never see the actual blows it is implied we see a flash of light instead.
THE EIGHT LESSON DELIVER AND WANT IT
RALPH MEET HIS DAD ON THE ALLOTMENT
Ralph however first he takes her to see his father, but she is unaware of the meeting and Ralph leaves her in the car. Ralph leaves the hustle and bustle of the city and we drive into the country side.
He hadn’t told her that the man he is meeting is his father, and, he and his dad have a chat on a hillside where his father has an allotment strip. His father asks about how his dancing is going Ralph confides in him about his dreams, and that Terry is possibly the best thing that has happened to him in a long time. That he will make it one day. . Ralph’s dad hands him a shovel and tells him to dig whilst they talk. They discuss a number of topics vegetables and gardening being one of them and Ralph s excitement at the prospects that are open to him through his pupil terry and totally shattered when is Father tells him that he heard what happened at the snooker hall and knows of Hard shuffle and his psychopathic tendencies .
Ralph is even more shocked when he hears the there is a rumor that some one was shot and that Ralph is in the frame for it. His Father a wise man tells his son to tread very carefully and advised Ralph that Terry may be in danger if Ralph allows her to get to close to him is in, Ralph tells his Father what happened and explains for the first time that when he was struck in the fact in the fight in the snooker hall he could not remember any that happened after that he could not remember leaving the hall or any thing that happened next He recalls that the first thing that he remembers is going into the Dance Studios. He did not remember a gun and did not remember shooting anyone.
Whilst this conversation is continuing Terry has left the car to shoot some photos of the scenery we see her standing on the hill side admiring the view, we also see her using a zoom lenses to capture from a distance Ralph and the man he is talking to snap snap snap. She continues to find things to photograph and end up relaxing sitting and chilling out. When Ralph gets back to the car and sees that she has gone on walkabout he starts to look for her it’s not long before he spots her sitting and relaxing.
Ralph picks Terry up and they turn to wards the direction of they car and see Ralph’s dad standing by the vehicle he had come down the hill to meet Terry for him self. Terry immediately unloads a barrage of shots as Ralph and her get closer to the stranger finally they all meet up.
Ralph’s father introduces himself to terry and enjoys a few words .He then lets Ralph that he has work to so and its getting late he then leaves Ralph with a few words of wisdom
Make your mind up once lost never recovered I remember (dad is just about to remiss and lecture Ralph than he thinks better not). Well make your mind up or some one or some thing will well see make hers up for you.
We then see Ralph who is visibly shaken by what he has heard from his father driving Terry back to the city and home his mood has become heavy and his thoughts are miles a way and he s silent and lack of attentiveness alerts terry to the fact that some thing is wrong. The shot ends with a picture of the city in front of them and we see the tall buildings in the distance. The two characters are heard discussing the weather Ralph is talking about dark days ahead and heavy thunder clouds and terry is commenting things will clear them selves up they, both know that they are using the weather to comment on there own personal situation. The rain starts to beat down on the roof of the car and the beating rain seems to beat out a rhythm.
Terry turns on the radio and the music that is heard blends in echoing the rhythm of the rain, as the two are seen through the front window of the car. Ralph drops terry of so as she can go home and heads for the warehouse.
Warehouse scene
Ralph arrives at the warehouse to find that this is nearing a spectacular transformation. There are a number of sections separating the warehouse space. We see a set of poles arranged in a group these poles are for spontaneous pole dancing each pole is light from the ground upwards and there are about 8 poles in total. next to the pole dancing section is two cars that are turned upside-down and sitting precariously on there roof there is a device attached to the car roofs that allow the upside down cars to spin on there own momentum, the undersides of the cars provide a platform for performance . There is then a chill out areas of sofas racy chairs and low-level tables. Adjacent to this section is a computer games area where all manner of walk in, stand up and hand held games. There is an open space obviously for dancing; a matted area for some king of grappling, a bar and finally 2 full sizes snooker tables. As Ralph beguines to try his hand at some of the computer games, his friend bo and a number of other people are seen to appear from nowhere. They all excitedly talk about the event and are commenting on the theme of the event which is “ U can Bet on anything”. Bo tells Ralph by phone that he has contacted Irish Shaun from the midlands and they discuss the deal they will try to make. As clubgirl an ex girl friend of Ralph’s interrupts their conversation the scene in front of our eyes fazes into the warehouse becoming full of people, this effect will see the main characters in conversation and the conversation will continue to create the time lapse effect. THE warehouse is now full to the rafters with people we see girls and men competing on the pole dancing poles, young and old people compete in the computer room. We see two figures grappling on the mats, and people dancing on the spinning cars as the head lights of the car flashes on and off to a beat. The D.J. is in on a raised platform at one end of the warehouse floor. This is a scene of high energy choreographers chaos there is an audience for every section, and the audience appears to be betting frantically on there chosen subject matter. The warehouse transformation allows us to see this vast space from a number of different perspectives and light pours into the space in a spectacular fashion as the glass skylights allow us to look to the Heavens. This scene is halted by the unwelcome arrival of a group of shadowy figures who presents a nevery presence, to the scene. Hardshuffle, Mouse and the boys have heard that this event was happening, and are about to find out what ”U cat bet on anything” is and who is behind the action. Hardshuffle enter the warehouse room in spectacular fashion the DJ is disarmed of his records as we see him lofted into the air and off the decks by hardshuffles men and replaces by mouse, the music which was being played up to this point was club house electronic music. Mouse then scratches the record that is currently being heard to a grinding halt and plays the intro to a James Brown record which starts with Ladieeeees and Gentlemen its, Then cuts this to New York , New York by Sinatra. Hardshuffle then proceeds to move through the shocked crowd and dance in a twisting manner on the pole sticking out his tongue in what is suggestively to be a mock sexual he then as he introduces himself offers his hand to a female onlooker who he then spin towards him self before did guarding her. He signals change music and we hear some reggae as he mounts the upside down car. The then makes it clear that you pay u play and rants on at the bewildered crowd. He then throws a substance on to the car which then explodes and sent people scurrying towards the exits for safety in chaos Ralph escapes and the scene ends.

We see him win the snooker game then discuss business with his boys. As his snooker opponent leaves he decides to have a second bet. He has 4 huge Dobermans. The cars are at the end of a long drive. (double or quits) He bets his dogs can get to the snooker opponents before they get to the car. The losers who are totally shocked at first do not believe what they hers then realize the proposal is serious and reluctantly agree Hardshuffle sets the dogs on them. And comments Then it’s a fair contest as the dog have just been feed.

The men make it to the car, well, one of them does looser 2 picks him self up and makes another attempt four the car, this time he makes it the dog in hot pursuit jumps through the air and bangs his head on the door as he enters the car semi knocking him self out.( One of the dogs jumps into the car and is trapped in the back seat.)
CAR CRASH STUNT SCENE
We see the semi conscious dog begin to stir then a mighty right cross from loser 1 to the Dobermans jaw send the dog into lala land the two losers speed off into the distance. Just at that moment loser 2 is distracted and unfortunately turns his head to look behind him, when he turns back to the road ahead to see the head lights of an oncoming car speeding towards him, he swerves to avoid the vehicle and through this action the car begins to tumble out of control it is catapulted into the air and rolls over eight times(the other car is not aware of this accident as the road is a series of twists and bends) the losers miracuscally walk away from the car in” A TEAM STYLE” and drag the dog from the wreak .They get some 15 yard from the car the car explodes .They shake them selves down.
We see the 2 losers walking down the road caring a very unconscious dog and as they pass a sign with an arrow pointing which reads 47 miles to London we see them pause for a moment look at each other then continue to trek in the direction of the arrow.

SINGER sings about BO; insists that she has not see Bo and that she is clean on drugs and does not know what the story has to do with her this is a play to the camera and directed at the camera as a denial. That obviously is not true No I haven’t seen Bo, I haven’t seen him in a long time…look, I never see the cat. If I never see him, it won’t be too soon for me, you understand? You understand man?…I haven’t seen the cat and I don’t want to see him. JP smiles and raises his eyebrow, hinting at approval, but saying nothing You see JP’s expression change
JP Tells a strange but engaging tale about what she believes when you pay for what you expect. Terry, I once went to Disney land for a few days. Whilst I was there I was given the red carpet treatment, the best rooms, the finest views, the finest food and wine. Have any of you guys been to Disneyland, Paris? JP deliberately holds on to the moment
Terry’s work is not going well .JP thinks that she is spending far to much time on what he calls distractions namely the lessons and that the big opportunity will pass her by. Terry is not happy after a conversation with JP when in an argument he tells her that the executives were not sure weather she could deliver the quality that they were looking for, every thing is not going well. She still has visions of the Club girl in her mind and does not know what is going on. Terry has not got any closer to breaking through to Ralph so that he feels he can confide in her. Terry heads towards the lesson on a short fuse, frustrated and a little confused she heads off for her lesson needing comfort and some answers Whilst at the hotel is going well and JP is doing the normal agent thing smiling and accepting thanks, the dickheads That’s Terry nickname for the executives, are saying fabulous genius Terry’s an icon we see pictures of the work that has prompted these accolades. SCENE 1
Then in an instant Terry’s bag is gone from her shoulder.
Terry
Hey!……..Hey! You little shit. Thief….Stop…Stop.
Terry stops apprehensively.
Terry Out of breath
Bastard.
Terry goes to push the doors open and at the same moment the doors burst open and the little boy runs straight into Terry.
Terry
Got you, you little bast……ow….
SCENE 2
We move into the snooker hall and cannot make out what is being said because the action is being viewed from a distance. The man being held is being repeatedly beaten by the short man, Mouse.
Mouse
Enough, huh, enough
The second man, Ralph, calls….
Ralph
Enough, stop..
Then Ralph, who is being closely watched by two men, one standing on either side of him.
Ralph
Look, he doesn’t have it on him and beating the fuck out of him isn’t gonna make it suddenly appear. Look, I’ve got an idea, what about….
Ralph struggles, turns and head butts the second man in the process damaging his own right eye. As the man lets go and bends over Ralph hurls the ball in his hand at the man holding his friend, Bo.
Ralph
Run, run, go now.
As he turns to run himself he is hit in the face by the man who was bent over and is now slightly recovered. Ralph, dazed, heads for the door and hurls himself through the doors and out into the sunlight. Having had no time to check on his friend and not noticing Terry crouched in the corner of the lobby, Ralph runs off, trying to gather himself back together. We see him moving up the high street shiftily looking around and walking quickly so as not to attract any additional attention.
STREET SCENE 3
Terry
I know this might sound a bit strange, but I just saw you come out of the dance studio and I wondered if you teach.
Ralph is completely taken aback
Ralph
(Cagily)
Why?
Terry
Well, I have always wanted to learn how to dance and I thought maybe I could pay you to teach me.
Ralph sees an opportunity to earn some money
Ralph
Yea, I can teach, but I’m not cheap.
Terry wants to learn to dance, but more importantly she wants to be taught by this man.
Terry
I’ve got money, have we got a deal?
Ralph
Alright then. £1500 for twelve lessons and you give me the money up front on our first lesson and we’ve got ourselves a deal.
Terry
Then it’s a deal. When and where shall I meet you?
Ralph
Come to my apartment tomorrow at twelve, 222 Ossington Buildings, Baker Street.
Terry
Okay. My name is Terry, and you?
Ralph.
I’ve got to say; I’ve never had a stranger approach me in the street and ask me to teach them to dance.
Terry laughs a slightly nervous laugh and shakes Ralph’s hand.
Terry
I’ll see you tomorrow. By the way, nice watch. (We see a Rolex on Ralph’s hand)
Ralph
Yea.
They depart in opposite directions, Ralph looking slightly bewildered, Terry feeling very pleased with herself.
HOSPITAL SCENE 4
Ralph walks into Bo’s hospital ward and stands by his bed. Bo is resting with his eyes shut.
Ralph
You look fucked.
Bo opens his eyes and raises his head slightly, and awkwardly and slowly rests it down again.
Bo
You don’t look so hot yourself.
Ralph
Spleen, neck, arm, leg, they really fucked you man.
Bo
Yea, yea, I know.
Ralph
So what are we going to do about it, we owe them 50 grand, 50 thousand pounds. You’re stuck here, I’ve got things to do, we can’t go anyway. And even if we did they’d soon find us.
Bo
Groans
Ralph
What the fuck are we going to do?
Bo
Have you got any cash?
Ralph
Only 15 hundred that some girl just gave me for giving her some dance lessons. What about you?
Bo
No, only my sax.
Ralph
We’re totally screwed.
Ralph looks at his watch.
Ralph
Anyway, I’ve got to run, I’ve got to give these dancing lessons. I’ll catch you later.
Pause. As he is leaving he turns around.
Bo
The money?
Ralph
I’ll think about it.
GAMES HALL
Ralph dives into the amusement hall.
Flashing lights, pinball machines, rows and rows of electronic screens.
Ralph playing soul edge a kind of ninja fighting battle game, he is completely locked into the screen. Ralph throws a cig into his mouth, drags on it then he releases a combo, the screen explodes.
Ralph
Yessssss

She dries herself and sprays a “bodyshop look-alike scent” on herself.
She is ready for her meeting with Ralph
Terry
Ready to go… God, I’m dying for a Big Mac…
We see her going out into the street.
Terry

Terry presses the doorbell and waits. The door creaks open, Ralph appears with a bruised lip, a plaster on his left eyes crumpled and unshaven, in a tracksuit, face full of sleep.
Ralph
Hello.
Terry
Hi.
He looks blankly, sniffs and then realises
Ralph
Shit, it’s today ain’t it?
Terry
I think so, yes
Ralph
Come on in then.
An enormous empty room, rubble, push bike and a small snooker table in the corner. Ralph takes her coat.
Ralph
So, do you dance then?
Terry
Well, not really, but I have always wanted to.
Ralph places her coat down onto a chair.
Ralph
There is no music, we dance.
Ralph
Walk, just walk and follow, good.
After 20 minutes of moving to no music.
Ralph

Ralph
I’m really, really sorry, you know things to do but we will make it up on one of the other sessions. Did you think of some music that you would like to dance to.
Terry
I had a couple of ideas. I thought I would tape them and you could maybe listen to them.
Ralph
Okay, same as before, ewe move, nice and easy, yes.
Terry feeling rather confident and at the same time rather shy looks down at the floor whenever she stumbles.

MOVIE EXECUTIVE SCENE
The swimming pool on top of the Hyatt Hotel.
Three executives and JP at the poolside. An intelligent looking dark headed female executive is holding a portfolio and written on it’s front is the title NY-LON
Female executive
We are really excited about this, it’s a fabulous idea. The dark side of humour, we think it’s huge.
She looks at a casually dressed , smarmy male executive – smiling
Male executive
Death and humour, genius. Pure genius, do you know what I am saying?
Female executive
Fabulous
JP smiles and raises his eyebrow, hinting at approval, but saying nothing
Female executive
Our people in New York are already saying fabulous, genius, and are lining up the big guns for the press attack. You have to be thinking ahead all the time.
Male executive
Yea, just a couple of points we would like to run by you about this. Why NY-LON?
JP
It’s not feminine, it’s not sexy, it’s not dangerous, but it is New York, and London , and that’s the inverted humour.
Female executive
Fabulous
Male executive
Now, about Terry. Are you really sure, I mean has she done anything lately, we have got a lot riding on this.
You see JP’s expression change
JP
Terry, I once went to Disney land for a few days. Whilst I was there I was given the red carpet treatment, the best rooms, the finest views, the finest food and wine. Disney without Mickey Mouse? NO. Mickey is the real deal.

For the first time Ralph is prepared and committed to give her the lesson of her life. Upon her arrival he takes her coat and in the fumbled exchange and greeting he accidentally drops the coat spilling the contents of her pockets and a number of documents and girl things fall out, one item in particular catches Ralph’s attention, a glimpse of a fax from JP confirming that Terry has won the commission and the show will preview in London and New York. It’s lunchtime, the restaurant has a glass front, and it’s busy with people. Hardshuffle is seated at a table with Mouse. Hardshuffle has a Robbie Coltrane type figure, a suit from Saville row, and is playing with a gold fountain pen (his trademark). Mouse has in his hands a piece of paper containing a list of some sort.
Hardshuffle
Well?
Mouse
We are nearly completed. Most of the stuff that needs to be sorted has been sorted. I had a problem with one or two bad players and I have had to sort that out in the normal way.
Hardshuffle
Spare me the details. Just make sure that everything is nice and tidy. We need to have the money that is owed to us collected and banked by the weekend.
Mouse
And what about those two cowboys? You know the ones that owe us big cash.
Hardshuffle
It just so happen…
Stops speaking, waitress puts drinks down on table
Waitress
Can I get you anything else?
Hardshuffle raises his hand and waves it to dismiss her.
Hardshuffle
Where was I? Oh yes, I received a phone call from Bo who is coming here to chat over his little problem and arrange to sort something out.
Just at that moment Bo enters the restaurant, knocking the chair of a man eating.
BO

Bo

Mouse picks Bo up and ‘Rock Bottoms’ him onto a table
Hardshuffle
A wrestling move Enough about a bet
SCENE 20
BO VOICEOVER
On planning the robbery, setting up the big game. What would Hardshuffle not want to lose? His cred, his dogs, a bet, and his standing in the underworld? The robbery must involve someone that he does not know or maybe not(loser1 and loser2) his favorite pastime snooker.
The plan, to trap Hardshuffle has to include the dog caught and ransomed pictures I’ll talk to Irish Shaun ands sort out the bent 20 pound notes, sent a ransom note to Hardshuffle double or quits and play for £100,000 and the dog, winner takes all. He bets his status in the underworld simple.
I will take Mouse’s place with a fat suit (some padding) and high heels and complete the weekend collection Terry will get four replacement dogs, loser1 and loser 2 will be my heavies for the collection.
Terry heads towards the lesson on a short fuse, frustrated and a little confused she heads off for her lesson needing comfort and some answers

God, I should… well, I… what if… what would the girls think? Now, well, go with your instincts. You have come this far…you are seductive, vivacious, high spirited, impulsive. So what is the problem? So what if it goes wrong? You are Terry. Undetectable- I think I like you. God, it’s easier taking photos of nude men, than dealing with the one you want…

The protagonist Hardshuffle and Mouse
Age between 55 and 65 .Enjoys the good the things in life. His weakness is his vanity.

She found herself fixed in the moment and was a live again

Scene 2&3 are interlocking as they are different perspectives of the same events;
SNOOKER HALL SCENE
THE TORTURE SCENE
( Hardshuffle has a Robbie Coltrane type figure, a suit from Saville row, and is plays with a gold fountain pen (his trademark). he two loves to dance and this was how he was his first contact with Ralph) Hardshuffle loves Sinatra, Ray Charles and, hard core Reggae. He is the gambling boss and he is a psychopath. Mouse his main enforcer mouse gets to work.
We see aerial view of a snooker table and close in to see a man laid out on his back with his hands and legs tied and held by the four corner pockets of the snooker table. We also see six red balls lined up between his crutch and the top end of the table we see five red balls in the shape of a D around his head at the top of the table and the rest of the balls organised neatly at the side of the table. The man’s eyes are full of fear and his mouth is gagged. We see Mouse with a snooker cue moving stealthily around the body on the table. We see him shoot one of the snooker balls towards the man on the table. We don’t see it strike, but we see the grimace. The scene ends with Mouse saying. Mouse whacks him with the cut .
HARDSHUFFLE COUNTRY HOUSE Music; Hit the Road Jack Ray Charles
We see this big country house with a long drive and three cars parked out side Hardshuffle at his country house playing snooker for money.
We hear the men running and the dogs barking.
Hardshuffles Office next day ( as he says this he hands mouse a picture of the kidnapped animal)Mouse leaves the office and we see him scouting the area showing his known contacts the picture of the kidnapped dog
SCENE 10 HOSPITAL SCENE
Ralph helps Bo get dressed they take the words of advice from the doctor and Ralph wheel hid friend out onto the street then home.
We see the pair bundle up the stairs and sit Bo on his sofa at his flat.
Ralph heads for the drinks stash Ralph suggests that a character called Irish Shaun who deals in counterfeit money could help them. Whilst drunk Bo and Ralph decide to use Terry’s money to teach Hardshuffle and his boys a lesson and at the same time settle an old score. They are short of cash and Ralph suggest pawning his only item of value his rolex watch Lets see what we have got then and if nothing else I will set up a meet he deals from the Midlands you have got friends there? Irish Shaun yea Irish Shaun it’s your gig I’ll give him a call.
NIGHTCLUB SCENE 11
FOURTH LESSON CONCENTRATE AND BE IT
In a nightclub, loud music, typical club scene. We see Terry and Ralph, after being introduced to her friends, move towards a chill out room. After dialogue they are left in the room whilst most of the other people there are chilled. We see them execute some of their dance move. At the same time we see a shot of a large black mouth talking about Bo, this girl is the clubs singer we follow her as she prepares to present tonight’s performance Ralph and Terry are seen only in the background
(FUNKY NIGHTCLUB DRESSING ROOM) Music Jazzy Urban Beat
SINGER sings about BO; insists that she has not see Bo and that she is clean on drugs and does not know what the story has to do with her this is a play to the camera and directed at the camera as a denial. That obviously is not true No I haven’t seen Bo, I haven’t seen him in a long time…look, I never see the cat. If I never see him, it won’t be too soon for me, you understand? You understand man?…I haven’t seen the cat and I don’t want to see him. You just keep leaning and leaning and leaning, get the fuck off my back man, I’m clean, man, look, I’m clean…there’s nothing there, look, LOOK. When I get pissed off man, I will throw a natural-born fit on you, understand? So why don’t you leave…why don’t you leave. I am clean, look…. nothing, nothing. No place, man. I’m clean, so stop leaning on me. I ain’t on the street no more, I just want to be left alone, baby. So don’t push me. You’re pushing my button. Leave, split, leave
Man shit she stops singing, She finishes her make up then bursts through the curtains
The singer starts to sing an anthem then fade.
When Terry and Ralph are about to leave the nightclub Ralph is surprised to see Terry immediately surrounded by friends and admirers of her work, she introduces Ralph to JP and in conversation Ralph discovers that Terry is a successful photographer. When JP lets slip that she has a huge show lined up and will star in New York Ralph is phased by this news, and moves away from the group he catches the eye of an old girlfriend and is drawn towards her name is Club girl
Terry sees Ralph slip the guests and friends and is horrified to see him leaving with a girl its Terry face is frozen and we hold on to this image. Culbgirl is a dark haired pole dancer that takes lessons with Ralph and is obviously had a relationship that was not wholly professional with Ralph we see this by the way we smothers him in public terry can also see this attraction and for the first time we sense that a relationship between terry and the strange dance teacher is brewing. THE FIFTH LESSON RELAX AND ENJOY POOL SCENE 14
MOVIE EXECUTIVE SCENE
The swimming pool on top of the Hyatt Hotel.
Three executives and JP at the poolside. An intelligent looking dark headed female executive is holding a portfolio and written on it’s front is the title NY-LON
She looks at a casually dressed , smarmy male executive – smiling
JP smiles and raises his eyebrow, hinting at approval, but saying nothing You see JP’s expression change
JP Tells a strange but engaging tale about what she believes when you pay for what you expect. Terry, I once went to Disney land for a few days. Whilst I was there I was given the red carpet treatment, the best rooms, the finest views, the finest food and wine. Have any of you guys been to Disneyland, Paris? Huge fairground attractions, and impeccable service. You know what, I wanted to meet and see Mickey Mouse. You see Mickey Mouse is the real deal. Disney without Mickey Mouse? NO. Mickey is the real deal.
The executives sit back and look puzzled JP explains
Beauty and the glamorization of death. NY-LON is Terry, come and see or wait and see.
Male executive No, no, no, we’ll be there, we’ll be there, we’ll be there. Some hours later
JP is on the phone to Terry to give her the good news, the executives brought the idea and the deal is on the show will preview in London and New York NY-LON is a winner now Terry has to deliver
We see a picture of Greyhounds racing some dead meat stuffed with money and a Rolex with Ralph’s hand attached a huge some Stock exchange references gory dead things and water lots of water grin and a picture of a Doberman with a newspaper showing the full date by it.

END SEQUENCE
SCENE 1
Then in an instant Terry’s bag is gone from her shoulder.
Terry
Hey!……..Hey! You little shit. Thief….Stop…Stop.
Terry stops apprehensively.
Terry Out of breath
Bastard.
Terry goes to push the doors open and at the same moment the doors burst open and the little boy runs straight into Terry.
Terry
Got you, you little bast……ow….
Ralph
Yessssss

We see her going out into the street.

Ralph

Terry

Ralph

We also see six red balls lined up between his crutch and the top end of the table we see five red balls in the shape of a D around his head at the top of the table and the rest of the balls organised neatly at the side of the table. The man’s eyes are full of fear and his mouth is gagged. We see Mouse with a snooker cue moving stealthily around the body on the table.
Mouse
You play. You play.
You play, you pay.
You lose, you pay .
Now you pay.
We see him shoot one of the snooker balls towards the man on the table. We don’t see it strike, but we see the grimace. The scene ends with Mouse saying.

Mouse whacks him with the cue.

Terry
I had a couple of ideas. I thought I would tape them and you could maybe listen to them.
Ralph

Terry feeling rather confident and at the same time rather shy looks down at the floor whenever she stumbles.

THE FIFTH LESSON RELAX AND ENJOY ITPOOL SCENE 14
Have any of you guys been to Disneyland, Paris? Huge fairground attractions ,and impeccable service. You know what, I wanted to meet and see Mickey Mouse. You see Mickey Mouse is the real deal. Disney without Mickey Mouse? NO. Mickey is the real deal.
The executives sit back and look puzzled
JP
Beauty and the glamorization of death. NY-LON is Terry, come and see or wait and see.
Male executive
No, no, no, we’ll be there, we’ll be there, we’ll be there.
Some hours later
JP is on the phone to Terry to give her the good news, the executives brought the idea and the deal is on the show will preview in London and New York NY-LON is a winner now Terry has to deliver
JP
Don’t you answer the phone
Terry
Well…well did we get it

Upon her arrival he takes her coat and in the fumbled exchange and greeting he accidentally drops the coat spilling the contents of her pockets and a number of documents and girl things fall out, one item in particular catches Ralph’s attention, a glimpse of a fax from JP confirming that Terry has won the commission and the show will preview in London and New York. SCENE 18
BO
Sorry mate.
He catches sight of Hardshuffle, walks over to the table.
SCENE 18
Cut to a picture of mouse and 4 Dobermans walking down the road
Hardshuffle
Take a seat…sorry…change of mind, don’t take a seat
Bo

Bo
I am arranging a match ‘Friday’, we play for the £50,000 we owe, and you play for the dog, the money and your cred in the underworld. Kinda winner takes all
Mouse picks Bo up and ‘Rock Bottoms’ him onto a table
Terry heads towards the lesson on a short fuse, frustrated and a little confused she heads off for her lesson needing comfort and some answers

We see Bo on a train up to The Midlands he is meeting Irish Shaun to buy some bent 20 pound notes they have a drink in an Irish pub and Bo heads back to London with a bag full of bent 20 pound notes ready to do the dirty on Hardshuffe.

He hadn’t told her that the man he is meeting is in fact his father, and, he and his dad have a chat on a hillside where his father has an allotment strip. His father asks about how his dancing is going Ralph confides in him about his dreams and that Terry is possibly the best thing that has happened to him in a long time and that he will make it one day.

Terry’s house is a large terrace with a mosaic floor entrance we see them enter the lounge, which is split onto two levels and open plan. There are National Geographic magazines everywhere, the answer machine is bleeping because it’s full, and Lenny Kravitz albums by Divas interrupting each other on the mini disk, and a picture of the on the wall.
Ralph
Weird, I thought you would live in a flat share, I’ve wanted to ask you for some time who is your favorite photographer.
Terry
I share where I want, anyway finding someone I would want to live with isn’t easy it to do, and the second one is not sure… I know what’s going on.
Ralph
Do you have anything to drink.
Terry
Alcohol?
Ralph
Has a fish got a waterproof head?
Ralph
Just dance slowly, follow, give in, and just follow
They start to dance
Suddenly Ralph stops…..
Ralph
Do you have a shower?
Terry
Excuse me
(Goes to the bath room and stares into the mirror voice over DIOLOUGE)
Hello, how are you? You look well. Feeling just fine. Good so. Listen: well, you are here now. Use the force, trust your instincts, take a chance. I think your interesting.
Terry
Have you ever read the Muhabaretta?
Terry
Why? I was going to show you the dark room fade black

BO HOUSE BEFORE THE BIG GAME

THE ELEVENTH LESSON BE AGGRESSIVE AND SUBMIT TO IT
At the same time as the game is going on a big man (Bo disguised as Mouse with 4 trained Doberman (courtesy of the assistant of Terry and JP from her photo shoot) are doing the Hardshuffle money collection with loser 1and loser2 in toe) and (Hardshuffle is playing an all or nothing game of snooker £1000 000 with counterfeit money, for his own dogs!
Whilst at the gallery the exhibition is going well and JP is doing the normal agent thing smiling and accepting thanks, the dickheads are saying fabulous genius Terry’s an icon we see pictures of the work that has prompted these accolades. We see a picture of Greyhounds racing some dead meat stuffed with money and a Rolex with Ralph’s hand attached a huge some Stock exchange references gory dead things and water lots of water grin and a picture of a Doberman with a newspaper showing the full date by it. We then flash frame to see hardshuffle s face fuming mouse looking bewilders and the rest of the cast that has made the story possible no sign of Terry or Ralph and no dance routine.
The end
Not quite we see Terry and Ralph enter a tightly framed shot bow to the front as if they were performing to I single person and they then proceed to deliver an brilliantly executed dance routine and end and bow the rest of the cast out of character give them a warm round of applause.
The end

We see this big country house with a long drive and three cars parked out side Hardshuffle at his country house playing snooker for money. We see him win the snooker game then discuss business with his boys. As his snooker opponents leave he decides to have a second bet(double or quits). He has 4 huge Dobermans. The cars are at the end of a long drive. He bets his dogs can get to the snooker opponents before they get to the car.
